Taxpayer Assistance Program In-Person
Tax Department employees will guide you step-by-step as you complete your own tax returns at no charge using secure online tax software. It's quick and easy! Please call the Library to schedule an appointment - 585-768-8300.
You qualify for assistance if you:
- earned $89,000 or less in 2025 (filing as an individual or family)
- have basic computer skills
- have an active email account
What you'll need:
- copy of last year's tax return if you filed, or your prior year federal adjusted gross income (FAGI)
- government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's license, or state-issued non-driver or IDNYC card)
- IDs for both spouses, if filing jointly
- birth dates and Social Security numbers for you, your spouse, and your dependents
- proof of all income (wages, interest and dividend statements, including cash income):
- Forms W-2, 1098, 109
- any other documents showing additional income
- health insurance statement, Forms 1095-A, B, or C
- information related to any credits you're claiming
- banking information for direct deposit or direct debit (the account number and the routing number for your bank)
- NY529 College Saving Account information, if requesting refund to be distributed to an NY-529 account
