Stories with the Stars

Stories with the Stars In-Person

Join us every Thursday this summer to watch a recording of a famous actor or actress reading a story, including stars like Betty White, John Lithgow, Lily Tomlin, Chris Pine and more! Then make a cool craft that goes along with the story. Celebrity readings are from Storyline Online, a program created by the non-profit SAG-AFTRA Foundation. Geared towards ages 3-12 years old, but siblings of all ages are welcome to join. Registration is required! You must sign up for each session separately.

 

STORY SCHEDULE: 

June 26: Listen to "Library Lion" written by: Michelle Knudsen, read by actress Mindy Sterling. Then make a paper plate lion craft!

July 3: Listen to "Too Much Glue" written by: Jason Lefebvre, read by comedian Nicole Byer. Then glue together your own paper rainbow!

July 10: Listen to "Never Play Music Next to the Zoo" written and read by: actor John Lithgow. Then make paper animal finger puppets!

July 17: Listen to "Hey That's My Monster" written by Amanda Noll, read by actress Lily Tomlin. Then make your own handprint monsters.

July 24: Listen to "I'm Not Scared, You're Scared" written and read by: comedian Seth Meyers. Then make a cute paper bear!

July 31: Listen to "Clark the Shark" by Bruce Hale, read by actor Chris Pine. Then make your own paper plate shark puppet.

August 7: Listen to "Harry the Dirty Dog" by Gene Zion, read by actress Betty White. Then make a paint splattered dog!

August 14: Listen to "The King of Kindergarten" by Derrick Barnes, read by actor Terry Crews. Then make school bus shaped frame, for your first day of school picture!

Miss Melissa is the Children's Librarian at the Woodward Memorial Library and enjoys working with patrons of all ages! She started at WML as a Library Assistant in July 2018, but has worked at a number of libraries in Genesee county since 2014. Miss Melissa received her Bachelor's in Child and Family Studies from SUNY Oneonta in 2013 and completed her Master's in Library Science at the University of Syracuse in 2023. At WML she leads library programs of all types, including storytimes, after-school programs, take-home kits, and adult crafts. She loves hearing your program ideas and making them a reality! 

 

Miss Melissa loves to read mysteries, romance, fantasy, and thrillers, and her favorite adult authors are Mary Kubica, Emily Henry, Jodi Picoult, Sally Hepworth, and Christina Lauren. Her favorite children's authors are Todd Parr, Eric Carle, Lucy Cousins, and Lemony Snicket, while her favorite young adult authors are Sarah Dessen, Jennifer Niven, and Maureen Johnson.
