Pumpkin Decorating Contest (BEGINS)

Pumpkin Decorating Contest (BEGINS) In-Person

Open to all ages from kids to adults!

Decorate a pumpkin to represent your favorite Children's Book or Book Character! You can paint it, dress it, and accessorize it any way you’d like! Please use a fake pumpkin, real pumpkins will NOT be accepted. Stop in for an entry form or print and fill out the one attached below. We will accept one entry per person. We have some foam pumpkins available for people to use on a first come, first serve basis. Stop into the Library ASAP to pick one up!

Bring your pumpkin to the Library by Tuesday, October 22nd at 8:00 PM.

All pumpkins will be displayed in the Children's Room for the month of October. Voting will take place from October 23rd to the 30th. Winners will be announced via social media on Halloween!! Participants must pickup their pumpkins by Friday, November 8th if they plan to keep them.

ONE winner* per age group will be selected for each of the following categories:

  • Best Representation of Book/Character
  • Best Use of Materials
  • Most Memorable
  • Staff Favorite

*Each entry may only win ONE category!

Miss Melissa is the Children's Librarian at the Woodward Memorial Library and enjoys working with patrons of all ages! She started at WML as a Library Assistant in July 2018, but has worked at a number of libraries in Genesee county since 2014. Miss Melissa received her Bachelor's in Child and Family Studies from SUNY Oneonta in 2013 and recently completed her Master's in Library Science at the University of Syracuse. At WML she leads library programs of all types, including storytimes, after-school programs, take-home kits, and adult crafts. She loves hearing your program ideas and making them a reality! 

 

Miss Melissa loves to read mysteries, romance, fantasy, and thrillers, and her favorite adult authors are Mary Kubica, Emily Henry, Jodi Picoult, Sally Hepworth, and Christina Lauren. Her favorite children's authors are Todd Parr, Eric Carle, Lucy Cousins, and Lemony Snicket, while her favorite young adult authors are John Green and Maureen Johnson.
